Mike Wallace's Daytona Win Uniform to Benefit
Families of Slain Charlotte Police Officers
Player Management International Media Release
Concord, NC (April 21, 2007) – NASCAR driver
Mike Wallace spends his weekends going fast and turning left and
he gets to do it in front of 100,000 people each week. It
is this that makes Mike Wallace appreciate those people who go
about their jobs in relative anonymity and get very little recognition.
Recently, Mike Wallace, driver of the #7 GEICO Chevrolet, donated
the GEICO driver uniform he wore when he won the Winn-Dixie 250
NASCAR Busch Series race at Daytona International Speedway on July
2, 2004, to the John Boy and Billy Big Show for an on-line auction. He
donated his prized possession to assist the radio show in raising
money to benefit the families of two Charlotte police officers
who were gunned down at point blank range.
Officers Sean Clark, 34, and Jeff Shelton, 35, were responding
to a domestic call at a Charlotte apartment complex on March 31,
2007, at 10:35 PM. While trying to subdue one person, another
person walked up and shot both police officers in the back of the
head.
Officer Clark had been with the department for just more than
a year and leaves behind a pregnant wife and a 2-year old son,
while Officer Shelton was a six-year veteran and leaves behind
a wife.
“These are guys who are humble guys who do their jobs and
never ask for recognition,” Wallace said. “This
is a tragedy for these officers’ families, as well as the
Charlotte community as a whole. My heart goes out to their
families and I wanted to do whatever I could to assist in their
healing. They are in our hearts, thoughts and prayers.”
You can bid on Mike Wallace’s Daytona uniform, as well as
several other items, by going to www.wrfx.com and
clicking on the tab on the left side of the page that reads, “Silent
Auction for our Officers”. Bidding closes at 5:00
PM (ET) on Monday, April 23, 2007.
