Statement from GEICO Racing Regarding Tragedy
at Virginia Tech University; Commemorative Decal to Appear on
#7 GEICO Chevrolet
Spartanburg, SC (April 18, 2007) – GEICO Racing would like
to extend its deepest sympathy, thoughts and prayers to everyone
affected by the horrible tragedy at Virginia Tech University. While
racing is important, we fully understand the gravity of the situation
in Blacksburg, VA, and as we travel to Phoenix, AZ, for the race
this week we will keep everyone in our hearts and minds and pray
for healing and recovery.
GEICO driver, Mike Wallace has a daughter who is preparing to
graduate from a college in the Charlotte area this year and can
empathize with the families affected by these events.
“This is a horrible thing that has happened and it is something
that hit close to home because our daughter, Lindsey, is a senior
in college and I can’t imagine having to deal with what these
families are dealing with,” Wallace said. “This
week has been a tough week because of all the media coverage around
this situation and you just want to do something to help these
people. When I hit the track in Phoenix this week everyone
in the Virginia Tech family should know that they are in the hearts,
thoughts and prayers of each member of this race team.”
In honor of the victims of the April 16th tragedy at Virginia
Tech University, a commemorative decal will appear on the #7 GEICO
Chevrolet Monte Carlos SS NASCAR Busch Series race car beginning
with the April 20th race in Phoenix, AZ.
